Welcome to Tennessee's first ever pathway to a teaching endorsement in computer science! This course leads you through six modules that align to TN's existing Secondary Computer Science Standards. You will explore the standards' content and increase your capacity to integrate them into your daily instruction with students in grades 9-12. Pending passing all modules and the final assessment, this course will lead to a computer science additional endorsement to an existing TN teaching license.
This course was developed by practicing Tennessee teachers already integrating these concepts and skills into their instruction. Each unit is designed to help you deepen your understanding of the computational thinking you already teach but may describe with other vocabulary then offer you opportunities to design lessons and measure student impact. Depending on your previous familiarity with the content or regular pace of lesson planning and grading, it is expected to take the average teacher anywhere from 6 - 10 hours to complete each unit. Once all six are complete with a status of "pass" you will come back to the course for a final multiple choice assessment of 30 questions covering all six unit topics.
Teachers interested in learning more about the Code.org professional learning program, which places teachers in a learning cohort for a year long course about Code.org curriculum resources while earning this endorsement should visit https://tsin.org/code-org for more information about the next cohort. There is an application process that begins in January each year and new cohorts begin in the summer for the following year.
You must already hold a valid TN teaching license for this course to result in your additional endorsement. It is not intended for initial licensure or certification.
